if you want a 5spd, just do a FWD 5spd swap. You'd have to get a donor type44 quattro chassis to get all of what you need. Not sure if the rear suspension points are even correct on the FWD type44 to take the 017 differential out back, along with the suspension arms and subframe.

Understatement.
I know of a guy who wanted to convert his Mitsu Mirage sedan to awd by using the awd wagon underpinnings etc. By the time he figured the cost and work, he found it would have been cheaper to drop a Mitsu turbo engine in the awd wagon ... don't know if he did it or not. This was before Mitsu introduced the Lancer Evo to the States.

Default I can answer that question

The front drive is totaly diferent nothing in the back is eveb remotly close.
I originaly wanted to convert my 84 front drive to quattro and I got the motor, tranny and the whole rear end and when I looked undr the car I went to buy a quattro and "Im the king of custom" so dont even think about it since the type 44 quattros are cheap these days.
Just a friendly advice

Default That's an easy conversion...

...sell the fwd and buy a quattro. The floor pans of both cars are totally different even though the cars look identical parked side by side. There is hardly a drivetrain hump on the floor pan in a fwd type 44. In order to install the quattro drivetrain you would have to remove the floor pan AND the trunk pan.

Don't do it. Sell the fwd and buy a quattro. No brainer. I've done crazy things, like help a guy weld up a 4kq floorpan into a 5+5 coupe, and help another drop a LT1 into a 5ktq. Even so, I'd never consider auto to manual OR fwd to quattro. You doing both? 2 minutes on a calculator...
