Default Fuel pump relay. Which one?

In a never ending saga to get my car just right:

Today I picked up some spare FP relays from the local junkyard. I got them from a 86 5000S and a 89 100. I noticed right away that they differed from the one I already had in my 88 5000S. The one sI got from the junkyard are taller and have the number 215 on them. The one in my car is short and numbered 211. Which one is the correct FP relay or does it matter? I switched relays amd drove a round and didn't notice any difference...at least not yet!

relay 215 part# 443 951 253 L
relay 211 part# 443 951 253 F

If I had ETKA with me I'd be able to figure this out myself

thanks!

Hey Stephen,
where is the fuel pump relay located on Audi 100?
I think mine is acting weird.

I can't answer your questions, as you see i don't even know where it is. Sorry.

Default It's in the fuse box...

which is located on the drivers side of the car in the plenum area between the windshield and the engine bay. It is a large grey relay with a slot on top which is where you would put a fuse in to activate the fault diagnostic codes.

The number on the relay should be 215, however like I stated earlier the one in my 5000 is numbered 211...

HTH!

My '87Q had a 211 with no terminals in the fuse/code plug.I used another 211 from a '87TQ and it did have the terminal in the fuse. Both were factory installed and gray in color. I have a 215, looks the same as the 211. I have not checked the rev level on the part number. my guess is the 211, 215 and 213 are assembly aids so the right parts are installed easily without trying to read the small letters.

Default Here's the scoop on FP relays...

courtesy of Qlister K. Brownsen...

The 211 relay was replaced by the 215 relay because the 211 were lower amperage and liked to burn out rather quickly. The 215 relay has a 30 Amp max while the 211 is 10/15 Amps...

I just bought one from Bimmer parts. The dealer wanted $78.00 and agreed on the type as follows. What I received from Bimmer(for $19.00) has the fuse slot in it and several functional prongs. It worked okay with the ones you mention, when I had nothing else but now with this one, everything is better it seems and prongs make better contact. Mine is '87 5000 QT.
