Idiot volt light coming on

Idiot volt light coming on
When i bought the car i needed to replace the altanator witch was about 3 months ago. Since then i have had to replace the belt. So i have a new belt and altanator but for some reason it is not charging and starting to really irratate me. My car is a 5000s quatro 1987 with lots of miles on it. It may be the wiring, i am hoping not, but i intend to bring to autozone to get it tested soon.
Any ideas would help
thank you

there is a way of checking out the voltage when you are driving or the car is parked.
> turn ignition on
> turn off electronic climate control / display
> now push the top right button and the bottom left button / together.
> there are two buttoms above that Hot red and cold blue
> push the top button ( I think it is the hot button ) until you see the number 11
> now push the button below that and it should give you a reading.
if you get a reading of 13.5 ish the alternator is good
> now check the battery if you get 12.5 volts with the engine of ( ign on ) that mean it might be okay , I would take the battery in and get a LOAD test done on it.
this is a good place to start ...d ( picture stolen from Adam M ;

tried your trick didnt work maybe i was doing it wrong but i went to autozone and they said it might be the regulator which makes sense because it stops charging after a certain time on the road.

Rebuilder's aren't infalable...
They are also hostage to the quality of parts supplied.
Have a look at postings by Will Ng. He has a link to a manual that will show you how to use the climate control diagnostic functions.
