New Audi 200tq Avant! Questions...
Hey all, I just picked up a 1989 200 turbo Quattro avant. It runs pretty well but has around 260k on it. Two things on my mind: I'd like to have a mechanic look over it and haven't found any in the San Diego area that specialize in these gems. I'm also toying with doing a 20v swap, the thought process being that it's got high miles and if you're gonna get a new motor, why not get a 20v instead of 10v??
I'm not incredibly mechanically inclined so I'd look into having a shop do it, but I'm curious if I could just find a low-mile 20v and have it stuck in there or if there would be other considerations too?
Thanks folks! Stoked to be back in the Audi owners' club after all these years!

Nice to hear from another Avant owner. Is this by chance the white Avant that was for sale recently in Southern California?
To answer your question, a 20v swap is pretty involved. Primarily because you'd be looking at completely new engine management systems as opposed to the CIS mechanical/electronic hybrid system that your car currently uses. I would first suggest having the compression checked on the engine to give you a sense of the health of the motor. If compression is good then there is no reason to swap the engine out.
Hope this helps and enjoy the car!
