A-Pillar Trim Removal ...

FYI: C-Pillar trim re-upholster ...
My C-Pillar trim is 'sagging' and dirty. I am going to remove them and use 3M upholstery adhesive to re-upholster them with black vinyl. I've always wondered why Audi does their C-Pillar trim in white when the A and B pillars are black.
Also need to clean the B-pillar trim.
Will do a post on my pillar adventures.

Here's how to do it ...
Okay, I did it, without breaking anything!
Basically, what you need to know first is that the trim is all plastic. It has about 6 plastic tabs that don't snap in, but simply slide into self tightening metal clips that are affixed to the steel on the a-pillar itself.
So with that in mind, you will not be unsnapping anything, just gently pulling out the tabs.
To do this:
1- peel off the door weather stripping and the rubber strip/trim at the top of the inside of the windshield.
2- grab the top of the trim with both hands on either side and gently wiggle it towards you.
3- this is not a brute force operation, just keep working it out slowly so you don't break the plastic tabs.
That's it.

Use pry tools
These are my favorite tools for working with trim:
A steel panel pry tool, looks like a twisted screwdriver with a forked blade:
Snap-On one is great ($26) -- bent just right
Lisle makes an okay one, abt $5.00, at Pep Boys
Auto glass shops often sell nylon tools that're designed for glass installation, but work well on trim that's near paint that would be scratched by a steel tool. Prices vary from a few dolars to $16. Very handy!
