Default PITA problem: not so hot start problems

It's not a hot start, it's not a cold start, but if the car sits for about 20-30 minutes it's a bitch to get running again. It'll start, idle ok, then kind of bog down and die, from then on it'll start, run for a second, and die until it's sat for a couple hours.

It's almost like a vaporlock, but the injector cooling fan and shroud works fine, the injectors aren't exactly tip top, but they aren't terrible either.

Any ideas? it's really annoying and has stranded me twice now.

It's worth a shot I guess, I'll pull the box apart and take a sniff to see if I smell fuel

Default Hey Dikiz explain

Hey Dikiz,
I have been having a problem with my 200. The car would shut off unnanounced, and then it will start and go for while before it did it again. This past weekend I smelled fuel from around the fuel distributor and sure enough, there was fuel gunk inside the air filter box. What exactly was your car's problem and what can fuel inside the air filter box due to the vehicle?

Luis

no, I figured there would be none, I'll try it.

it's as if the car starts, then dies, and floods itself while I'm trying to restart.

Default Details?

If it starts and idles it's probably getting good spark, sounds like a fuel problem. It's happened twice, so trends may not be evident yet, but give us some details to work with. Stone cold start or warm? Did you pull a plug and check if it's wet? Any smoke or smell? How old are your injectors? How old is your fuel pump? Ever changed your fuel filter?

Default Re: Details?

the fuel pump is new, the injectors are old, the fuel filter is new.

Like I said, it's not a warm, and not a cold start, it happens after it's been sitting for 20-30 minutes, starts fine, idles crappy and just dies, then won't restart. I never have tools with to pull the injectors.

Default Rough idle?

Does it idle smoothly then die, or run very rough and not respond to the throttle before dying?

rough and any attempt to add throttle usually kills it.
