Default pop goes...

Going in the 20v Avant from Phoenix to Flagstaff, so, uphill, moderate throttle, heard a 'pop' sound, muted, not loud, and the engine died. Put it in neutral, cycled the key to the off position and back to ignition and it started right up. Happened twice. ??

MFTS is on its way, along with the connector repair kit. Dash coolant warning bell and light keeps going off even with the MFTS unplugged, so, must be a bad coolant sensor.

Ordered hatch struts and Bilstein strut inserts, rears are new Bilstein. When I get the strut inserts we'll try and get it properly aligned, the shop that did it in Sacramento said its in specs but it still wants to drift to the right.

Probably popped an intercooler hose off or worse a hose itself burst. Either way have look around the intake plumbing.

yeah that's what I thought, but all the hoses are present and accounted for. Hmm. The reaction of the car to whatever happened was sudden lack of spark. The engine instantly died, but restarted just as instantly as soon as I cycled the key.

on the topic of coolant temp sensor, AutohausAZ sells the expansion tank but not the sensor. Where to buy the sensor?

Have you tried unplugging the sensor or cleaning it's contacts? The sensor is part of the tank and not available separately. I recommend dealer only for the coolant tank. Aftermarket tanks are said to not last long as they tend to crack. That said it would likely be fine to get by with for a while I have one in my car without any problem yet. The OEM tank has gone up in price. pn# 8A0121403A you can get one cheaper than what your local dealer would charge from http://www.audihendersonparts.com or http://genuineaudiparts.com
Same applies for the cap pn# 443121321

I've been running an Autohause AZ expansion tank on my 200q20v for five years with no difficulties. However, yesterday I got a coolant warning while my temperature gauge pointed right to the middle. I pushed in the clutch, turned off the key, turned it back on and the warning disappeared.

I hadn't read your post, Yoda, until today, but maybe you've jinxed it :~).
