Power window switch to manual

Power window switch to manual
As we all know here in the USA, all the Audi 5000 models have power windows, that go out once every 6 months, be it the switch or the motor. Has anyone switched theirs to manual crank? Was it hard to do, and where did you get the parts? I heard that in Europe, they had, in the mid to late 80s the same Audi, but with the manual windows. HELP!

Re: Power window switch to manual
I haven't seen the conversion done yet...
However I have seen a couple of 89+ 100 E's. The 100 E was a US and possibly Canada(?) model with no power equipment. Manual crank sunroof and windows, manual climate control, etc.
The "E" in this case, stood for economy. And yes I know that in europe there were early Audi's with the " E"designation that stood for fuel injection(einspritzen(sp?), so don't bring that up anyone!
Just think how nice it would be to ahve a type 44 car that didn't have all that crappy wiring
Anyways I'd imagine there must be part available for this car somewhere? Either new or used...
I cannot find THE 100 E listed in ETKA. It's almost as if it didn't exist. However it must as I have seen 3 now. One I saw just 2 weeks ago in Grand Rapids, MI...

I understood power windows were cheaper
I understood that power windows had replaced manual because they were cheaper to produce in the sense that they were easier to vary from one model to another without complete redesign. There is also a savings in reducing "options".
I have seen a few 100E's, don't recall if they had manual windows.
