Default skiddmark: about that no cat setup

where did you get the flanges that connect up to the exhaust. I have a parts car and was thinking of just taking off the old cat and cutting it out then replacing w/ a 2.5" pipe. Well that cat is sooo rusted i couldn't even get 1 screw off.

Default Hi flow cat

The muffler shop I have my work done at showed me a "hi flow" cat that is legal. To install it you have to cut the pipes off on each side of the old cat and weld on the new one. Total cost would run about $100.

Default I cut the flanges off my old cat and welded them to the pipe at a slight angle.

Default I just did that 2.5" pipe setup also

The cutting went alot easier with the plasma cutter. I think that my uncle was a little pissed when I wore out one of his wet saw blades. Welding was pretty straight forward, and I did build in a jog like skiddmark just described. I used a sawsall with a metal cutting blade and cut the bolts off.

I think that I noticed a slight increase in power at low rpms, and it flows alot better. Glad I did it.

I had to *sawzall* :-) the bolts off too, I think they had become one piece.

Default how did you ..

deal with the pipe still welded inside the flange? I can't for the life of me find a tool to be able to grind that out w/o having a great amount of runout.

Humm, mine seemed to line up fine with no extra grinding. Have a picture?
