Somebody please respond to my problem! Head Gasket/ Exhaust Manifold
1983 5000s Gas.2.2
I've just found a twofold problem. My car was driving very nicely when I turned it off, to have the exhaust manifold replaced or repaired. The obvious loud exahaust noise was what started the job.
For a few months I noticed I was low on water/antifreeze, with no obvious leak. Since my mechanic was removing the manifolds, he took off the head and found I do also have a broken HG, with water in the oil.
The plan is to replace all gaskets, and unfortunatly take the head to a machine shop to remove a broken stud for the manifold.
I believe my car will run as good as it was and maybe better. It did not smoke, stall, miss, and took to hills and freeway driving was excellant.
I did notice that it ran hotter for a bit over a year. I changed the thermo and checked all hoses, plugs, wires at the same time it passed smog in April '05 with flying colors. It has about 115,000 miles on it... and is in rather good shape.
Does anyone have knowledge of this model, that could re-assure me hopefully?
