Spooky dashboard light apparations
OK, I know I have to pull the dash and do some horrorendous amount of tinkering, testing, head scratching, gut renching, bla bla bla but thought I could circumvent it all perhaps from pearls of wisdom that some poor slob before me garnered on his/her own path towards enlightenment. OK ... 1990 200 Audi turbo (10v) quattro stick wagon with 103K (just a babe). Every so often, when headlights are on, BOTH turn signals (green) and high beam indicator (blue) lights light up on dash board. At the same time the center computer digital display goes dark and remaining dash lights dim a bit, but not much. Obviously it's a short some where, but where??? This can happen when it's dry, no rain (like last night), and NOT happen when it's raining furiously (like today) AND sometimes it hapens frequently, and other times it doesn't happen for months. Any ideas? Hints? Incantations? Or is this what makes an Audi, an Audi?
Thanks!

Re: Spooky dashboard light apparations
Common problem, fixed several IC's to date. Job is a PITA, not difficult, but takes some patience and good eyesight. Not to mention some soldering skills!
See attached link. Had found some other info, but don't remember exactly where! Search this site and audifans, you should come up with more stuff.

run a new ground wire
from digital clock neg pin (they are marked) to a good chassis ground (ie, firewall) with bell (phone cord) wire and your problems should go away. at least mine did!

look farther than this as this did not work for me when i had, and still do, the same problem as you describe. i would be more inclined to try this:

which i have not tried to date. by the way in 9 years of owning my 200q i cannot remember how many times i have had the cluster out of the car to repair myself. i would call the IC and the rear brakes 2 of the most frequent problem areas with the car. after the 210kms i have put on the car i still think its a fabulous car to own... especially in the snow belt.

http://www.lanikamal.com/audi/dashboard.html</a
