I am reading through my bentley and it is impossible to decipher how to totally remove the inside trim. I know i am missing a spring or something. I unclipped the two tension springs and attempted to slid the inside trim back into the body of the car. No luck. There is still tension on some spring that i cannot find.

If anyone has less vague directions than the bentley i would greatly appreciate them.

figured it out!

Now i am having trouble getting the headliner tray out. All of the pillars are removed, as well as the sunroof assembly.

Any hints?

By HL tray you mean your trying to take the HL out of the car?

yup. I actually figured it out. I did the same thing with my Mark2 GLI.

the HL tray backing (cardboard,) was glued directly to the roof. I heated it up a bit, and scraped, and pulled until eventually i was able to squeeze it out the rear door.
