Is there a way of figuring out actual month of production

Is there a way of figuring out actual month of production
from the VIN ?
WAUGE5441MN001626 is the one I'm interested in .
This is because of the 15 year rule in Canada.
Thanks !

WAUxxx44xNxxxxxxxxxxx
WAU is west ger/audi (iirc)
44 is typ
N is MODEL year.
E = 84
F = 85
G = 86
H = 87
J = 88
according to my bentley. So following the same rules, and skipping vowels
K = 89
L = 90
M = 91. So your's would be 1991 MODEL year. the only way to find actual *production* date is to look on the doorjam, driver's door.
Anyway, generally 91's would be made in '91 or possibly late '90.. so you might be able to bring it in in a few months..
I think my '88 is made in 10/87, and my 84 is made in.. forget.

I think... :(
1991 AUDI 200 QUATTRO 20V TURBO
Since 200 20V model was ever sold in US only in 1991, this car is inadmissible to Canada in any way. Unfortunately, but thats the way it is.
Full list of cars you can check here:

Registar of Imported Vehicles

Sold a '67 Dodge to a Canadian
They made him so crazy trying to get it across the border that we cut it in half at the doors and imported it as parts. Can't say I knew all of the details. Sometimes it is better to beg forgiveness than to request permission.

MarkPan is correct. Basically, it is verboten ..
to bring in permanently ANY car from anywhere except the USA until it is (calculated from the exact month of production, not model year )15 years old. Younger cars can be brought in from the USA before that but there is a procedure to be followed that is not very complicated AND the car cannot be on Transport Canada's official ****e List that MiB above refers to .. all the 200's are on the ****e list because they supposedly do not have 5 mph bumpers. This is absolutely not true but, hey , they're the government and you're not, so try convincing them. Once a car is + 15 years it does not matter if it is on the list or not ... it's admissable. I was thinking of bringing in one of those Somali Warlord modified jeeps from Mogadishu but Customs objected to the rear mounted twin 60 cal Brownings ( . Too bad as it seemed just the ticket to get all those freakin' SUV's outamyway during rush hour.
I have brought in an '81 528i and an '84 4KQ from the States. OK, I'll just have to call the seller of the 200 20V when the time is nigh to buy and ask him to have a gander at the door jamb sticker.

Got my '67 911S in from Arizone alright... but those are classics...
I called and inquired about the 1991 200's specifically. Before I started beating on the government clown over the phone only the 1991 200's were forbidden. Once I was done convincing him that they were the same car he banned them all <insert explicative here>!
Regardless of the 15 year NAFTA thing the cars still need to be made to meet the regulations in place at the date of production. This means that you are hooped for the bumpers and will need to install the child safety seat anchor points and make them accessible.

aha ! so it's your fault ! I was wondering why that
happened. I too started checking the list a long time ago and noted that only the '91 200's were banned. Then, suddenly, all of them were !
But honestly what you say about the plus 15 year cars needing still to be modified is not true at least on the Federal (Canada Customs) level. The rules now are that if the car is on the list it is just plain not admissable and you are not allowed to replace bumpers or anything else to address why it is on the list in the first place. It used to be allowed to do so before the RIV was set up but not anymore. Now every Province maintains its own safety inspection regime on imports even from other provinces so I cannot say for sure what your particular province (Ontario ?) would require but I do know that Quebec does not check for bumper speed compliance and safety belt anchor points in their inspection. They only check (and very thoroughly) the usual mechanical stuff like brakes, steering, suspension, egregious rust, etc.. And we still don't have emissions testing here but I wouldn't want to try and sneak a non cat con'ed car by them unless one could prove that the model never had one.

Yes it is my fault, sorry. I was fighting hard for all of us...
and the crazy guy went the exact opposite direction.
Q: Why don't government employees look out the window in the morning?
A: Because they'll have nothing left to do in the afternoon!
The solution:
Import and use the 1991 from the USA as a "parts car" <wink wink, nudge nudge> and "rebuild" a 200 TQ of the same colour. Once the valuable parts are in a car with a VIN that matches a Canadian vehicle they will have no way of checking nor any reason to look. I'm not endorsing anything illegal here. ;-)
