Thoughts on a new project....V8 Twin Turbo.
I have been thinking lately about upgrading my turbo from a To4e to a GT30 or GT35. But after seeing the post about Marc Swansons V8 twin turbo i've been thinking maybe that would be a fun project. Does anyone have any thoughts on a 4.2l V8 twin turbo in a 200TQ avant (just because I think they are cool) or S6 avant?
It seems to me that it will fit no problem and will bolt right in. I would want to do upgraded rods with a full engine rebuild, port and polish, possibly bigger valve and all the other stuff you would do with this sort of project. 034 has the exhaust manifolds with T3 flanges and they have the rods. Throw in intercoolers, engine management, custom exhaust. I understand that it is a pretty major project (not like shoehorning it into an Audi 90 but still a good deal of work) but I have few cars and don't need to be on a deadline.
And with 4.2 liters plenty of power should be available. Does anyone know of any projects out there like this? They must exist.

Entirely feasible.....but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I've got a twin turbo project in the works. All I have is the v8. And thats where the project is going to stay for a while. I may start collecting bits here and there. But for now it is on the backburner.

anything is possible
on the engine internals it requires more thought than simply installing new pistons due to the v8 being all aluminum.
I've put some thought into it however in case my stacked gaskets and/or stock internals prove to be a weak point. I've read about a place that can completely redo a nikasil coating (they mostly deal with Porsche 928 motors but its the same basic idea): http://www.928motorsports.com/services/uschrome.html
If I was going to do pistons I'd probably go that route with specially coated forged pistons and stock piston rings with forged rods. All this is hopefully way down the road. We'll see..

Great link to the Nikasil coating Marc.....
...resurch time.
& I should have my turbo exhaust mani's & T3's waiting for me at home after I get out of Maine tomorrow. That is if Keith (RockinV8q) got off his lazy a$$ & sent them to me on time!
But the tt 3.6 is just for the time being...DTM 4.2 next year whoo hooo

There was a terrific post some time ago that we all drooled over. 3.6L bored out to 3.8L with a pair of twin k26 turbos. The k26 flow is great for a 1.9L motor so that match is actually quite good. Search for 'Drool' or something like that. We were all just gawking at the machine. Awesome...
