Default V-8 battery problem

I don't know what my problem is. I have a '90 V-8 quattro and it won't start after sitting for several hours. The battery checks good. I hooked up a test light to the neg batt terminal and it lights up strong, which I assume means there is something drawing on the battery. Could this be an alternator problem, or should I look for something else?

Default Re: V-8 battery problem

It does'nt take much to light up a test light. so the fact that it lights up strong does'nt mean much. So your best bet would be to get a volt/ohm meter and check the battery voltage. If you can, check the voltage on the alternator while the car is running.

Adam.

Default Is the battery under the rear seat like a Type 44...

...if so your battery cables that run under your car to the engine are junk. I mentioned this before to someone. The battery is fine, alt is fine volts are fine but car won't start if it sits. The battery cables are compromised somewhere under your car and there is not enough cable to pass the current thru on initial start-up.
