Volvo 20v VS Audi 20v
I have a 95 volvo 850 in addition to my 87 5000CSQT. The Volvo has a 5 cyl twin cam with 20v and it seem so anemic even campared to my 10v. Anybody know the primary difference between the audi 20v and the Volvo 20v?

Yeah, i know. No one here gives a straight answer :)...
I was just curious design wise. Both are 5 cyl so you would think they would be on par with each other, but what a powerehouse the Audi 20v is. I have a 10v on my 87 and even that has more ***** than the Volvo. I just don't understand how two very similar engines can be miles apart.

Sorry... serious answers....
Check the displacement figures, then compression. Valve sizes, fueling scheme, exhaust layout...
Here's a stab in the dark. Audi needed to design a motor that was capable of pushing a car that size AND run it through an AWD driveline. The volvo only contended with a FWD scheme and so one method of limiting torque steer is to limit the torque in the first place.
In short, there are so many engineering considerations and design constraints that the question you pose is quite complicated. Sure, someone may have known a rare tid bit of information about the volvo motor... but it was just too easy to answer with my tongue jammed firmly in my cheek. Just funnin' dude.

I know. It's been a crazy week for crazy answers...
But I've been on the forum long enough to know the difference between playful jabs and the real thing. I fully expected a half baked answer related to the , ahem, Volvo. What i don't care for, and most will agree, is the serious punches.
