1989 80/90 headlight stalk compatibility

1989 80/90 headlight stalk compatibility
The stock stalk is quite square and 80s looking. Will the successor stalk, which is much more smooth and rounded, be compatible? For example by 1991 the 100 (the 10v 100) had the newer-styled, smooth stalk.
I have headlight issues on the 1989 90 and am wondering if the smooth stalk, which is more readily available in junkyards, would work. If so, would it need to come from a B4 only? Or if I find one in a C3/4 work as well?

column cover, maybe even the steering wheel because of the canceling ring/clock spring.
