Default '91 CQ Black Lower Trim Rust Proofing

The lower black trim on my '91 CQ are disintegrating after 4-5 yrs of use. The inner metal piece has again corroded.

I ordered new pieces and would like to treat them so that this does not happen again. Any ideas on what can be done here to make these parts last longer?

Thanks.

Default Check my answer to your question on the 20VRennlist....

But as I said Chris, you should not be having such a problem if the pieces are OEM. I have had my car since new and those who have seen it up close will tell you I have no rust on it at all. And I live in the Snow & Rust belt.
