A4 engine
I've been told that in the states there are owners of early 80's-90's putting A4 1.8T engines in their cars. Isn't this a bit daft to do and expensive to boot? Why not just buy a V6 90? A4 's are a bit antiseptic don't you think?

Re: A4 engine
Can't see it being a real problem.
That erou 80 i seen a few days ago, from france, rather one of its islands of my coast, had a 1.8l engine in it. Though i don't think it was turbo...
maybe somebody else can take this further with regards to how any varations of this engine are out there.

Rhine did the swap
He has exhaust, nuespeed intake, Upsolute 4bar chip. The install had some fabrications to deal with, but went rather smoothly. The difference in weight plus 210hp makes the car move pretty damn fast. Plus better gas mileage.

But the cost must be obscene.
It has got to cost more to do this swap than it would cost to just buy a good, used A4 1.8t. And when you are done, the vehicle's value is probably less than when you started!

True, but some people like having a unique car, and the 1.8T has several advantages...
... the biggest being lighter weight.
The 1.8T is becoming more and more the engine swap of choice for owners Sciroccos, Corrados, older Jettas, Golfs, and GTIs, VW Cabrios and even older Audis.
I doubt I would ever go through the expense or hassle of doing this (especially since I already have a V6), but I can understand where others are coming from.

I just saw a 80 with a 1.8 T swap...
this weekend at the Treffen car show outside Chicago. The kid had just gotten it chipped and the car was very fast. I think he said he paid just under $3000 for the whole engine/harness. His friend did the install...
