I dont have emmissions in my town either. However you are still leagally supposed to have cats......
at least here in VA with a car newer than a certain year. I chose to gut them. at least it looks like I have them if I am given a visual inpection for some reason.
I disagree with the people saying its being an *** to ignore the emmissions.....it sounds to me like they are either hippies or have strict emmisions in their town and simply cannot get away with the "emmisions ignoring" mods.
Do you realize how many Antique/Classic/Hot-Rod tagged muscle cars [and the like] driving around this country with no ristrictions on emmisions (or much else for that matter). Your AUDI's cat delete will not be making a difference as far as I am concerned. But then-to each his own! there are definately other ways around the restriction of a stock cat as dtompsett has suggested.
bottom line is that cats are a restriction; and it is better for an engine mechanically and performance wise to run without them (supposing your overall exhaust system is disigned correctly). Though it is unnescessary to run a huge exhaust on a NA engine, increasing the diameter and using a high-flow cat in addition to having a well planned/designed system can be very helpful.
Its up to you what ya do, brother!
