Audi 80 cold start problems
I have a 1988 Audi 80 2.0l that recently has developed a cold start problem. It is hard to start when cold, engine shakes, sputters, stalls, when warm it runs fine. I put power directly to the cold start valve and it sprayed. Which is the thermo time switch? Is it the sensor on the top or the bottom of the coolant housing on the driver side of the block. Another thing is that if I have the ISV plugged in when I start the car, it will not idle at all, stalls if my foot is off the accelerator. If the ISV is not plugged in when I start the car or if I plug it in after the car is running the engine runs fine. I have changed the intake boot, it was cracked and have tried to look for any other vacuum leaks. What is the proper timing procedure for this engine? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Audi 80 cold start problems
You can check van Gerbig's site. Do a search for the "Audi 80 pages". He'll be able to go into more detail than I can. Check it out. I myself have an 88.80 2.0 and I have cold start problems only when it's about 40 and humid out (weird). I just rev the hell out of it when it fires (wu-hooo!) and forget about it. You might be able to find somemore troubleshooting on that site. Sorry I forgot the URL. ENJOY. LATERS,
