Default Auto Transmisson Help

HELP! PLEASE!!
My Auto Transmisson in my 1990 90 stopped on me. I have had some problems with this car but none have been the Transmission. Until a week ago. I was backing out of my parking spot and when I shifted to Drive, I hear a pop or snap and then I was just sitting dead in the water. The car will not shift into any gear, when I attempt to shift I sometimes hear a grinding rattling noise comming from the tranny. I got underneath the car and pulled of the exauhst heat sheld to get a good look at the linkage, but I didn't see anything disconnected or broken. What can I do? Do I have to pull the whole tranny out? PLEASE HELP!!!??? If I can't fix this for under $500 I am gonna have to send it to the graveyard.

Default Can't diagnose unless you get it to a shop.

The auto's are notoriously unreliable in these cars. Rebuilds don't last forever either.

Find out what it'll cost to get it repaired or replaced.

Default hate to say to but sub 500$ is not the average tranny fix. If oyu have the space on your lot....

part it out for a few months before it goes to the scrap yard....keep the Audi love alive!!!! and make a few $$$. The scrap yard is gonna give you the same price either way!

Default Does the speedo move when you put the car in Drive and hit the gas?

Sounds like a bad CV joint to me.

Default Re: Does the speedo move when you put the car in Drive and hit the gas?

I took the axle off before I removed the trany and one of my cv joints was bad. But would one bad cv joint prevent the trany from turning the other wheel? one had a bearing missing and the other one is dry. When I put it in park with out the axle on, there is the same grinding sound when the axles were on. Where the axle connects to the trany, spins when I put it in any gear. So, could this just be a broken CV Joint???? PLEASE HELP ASAP Its jacked up in my apartment complex and plan on pulling the trany tomorrow.

I went to pull a cv joint off a 92 90s but the mount doesn't look the same and the bolts are half as long. If one cv was bad or disconected would the orther wheel not turn?
