Default Maybe for a 20v swap, MC = 10vt...

<a href="http://geocities.com/jeg1976/conversion_home.html">http://geocities.com/jeg1976/conversion_home.html</a>

<a href="http://www.newtsplace.com/~newt/90tq/">http://www.newtsplace.com/~newt/90tq/</a>

<a href="http://www.80tq.com/">http://www.80tq.com/</a>

CQ and 80/90 engine bay is similar, but the 7A fuel system is different, so check out Cuatrokoop's site too, click on his sig!

Cheers!

Default Click on a post by cuatrokoop...then click on his sig and it will take you to his site....

He is doing a MC swap into a CQ right now. He'll be able to answer all your questions and he is working on overcoming a lot of the obstacles that you will encounter with this swap.

10vt = best money you can spend on a nice, reliable, torquey turbo motor. Scour Ebay.de and pick up an S2 FMIC and cross member (or make your own x-mem).

Biggest issues are hooking up the fuel lines, which I'll likely use some junk yard items, or bits from the donor car I picked up. The CQ has hard lines into the engine bay, then flex lines to the fuel rail. I may actually make one of the CQ lines work (worried about length). Can't remember if the 80/90 10v cars hard lines are in the same spot or not. Either way, easy fix.

The AC is the LARGEST obstacle to overcome, and the most expensive one. The 10vtq has its AC compressor on the drivers side of the engine bay, and it runs below the radiator. However, the CQ's radiator is much taller than the 5ktq's and it will NOT allow anything but the alternator on that side of the engine bay (am I confusing you yet?), as there is no room for the factory AC.

So, that leaves you with the CQ's alternator on the driver side, which is where Audi put it.

Now, that leaves the passenger side to mount the AC compressor, also like Audi put it in the CQ. BUT...the turbo is in the way.

What to do? Fabricate your own exhaust manifold and downpipe with provisions for the external wastegate. This can gain you clearance for the AC compressor, and if you do it right you can use the S2's turbo/IC hoses along with the S2 FMIC and x-member. This is the route I was going to go, however I don't have the cash to make a new manifold.

Or, do an AC delete, which is what I am doing. Also cuts 40+ lbs off the nose.

The other "headache" is that the wastegate tends to reside in the same location as the CQ's battery. So, move the battery to the trunk, run very large wiring, a large breaker, large distribution blocks, and put the battery in a marine-style box and strap it down. You may want to have a kill switch stuck somewhere if you plan on racing the car?

Oh, flywheel/clutch/pilot bearing stuff, you MUST use the CQ's bits for that. You will need to add the CIS trigger pins to the flywheel. Nothing major, easy job for a machine shop.

Oh, and, follow directions, click the sig and read up ;-) And do not just go by what I say, read the other sites. However, mine is the only one I know of specific to the 7A to MC1/2 swap...
