Dave, does the donor need to be a manual? are the ECU's flashable? I have found a few auto passats and A4s in the range but few manuals

no they dont need to be, ecus are swappable. however the actual crank is different between Auto/Manual. I used an auto the first time around, there are ways to use it with a manual flywheel, the pilot bearing is the concern.

what cars came like that? so far i've only ever seen audi tt's transverse 1.8t and fwd.

i like the way that sounds, drop it in as a unit
