buying a coupe with a broken windshield; bad idea?
Basically I found a 1990 cq with a broken windshield, dull paint, broken odometer (showing 116k, owner swears no more than 4k beyond that)and "shot front suspension" whatever that means. All for $1,700
What do you guys think, bad idea? I've heard conflicting views on whether or not the windshield is available. And if it is available from the dealer they want somewhere areound $800.

I made a few calls...
I made a few calls, found a used one for $300+ shipping, and a new one for $800 without the tint strip or $1500 with the tint strip. But I have my doubts about whether or not they can actually the the glass...

Coupe windsheilds are pretty rare...
You are best off trying to find one used if you are going to get this car. Chances are that coupe that you are looking at is going to need a bunch of work though so beware.

They are rare as all get out
When I was searching a number of places had listings for them, but when push came to shove they couldn't actually get one. Most places though didn't even have listings.
I know PPG no longer can supply them. Pro-Source glass in Ma has them from time to time, but availability is spotty. Safelite still says they can get them, but they'll call you back and inform you that they can't really, BTDT. STFA, there was another supplier that was making them, but you'd need to find an installer who can source from them. There's a thread on this out there.
If the dealer can get one at that price, I'd say that's probably your best bet. However don't quite hold your breath just yet. I know the parts manager at the local dealer and he said that almost 2/3 of the glass they order in comes in broken.
