cheap, down-n-dirty 12V oil cooler upgrade using all Audi parts...

I stumbled on this last year when I did the AllRoad tranny mount conversion but am just now getting around to installing it on my car.
The Mod:
A B5/S4 Bi-Turbo oil cooler (heat exchanger) for B4/B5 12V FWD or Quattro cars using 100% Audi parts.
The Parts required:
028 117 021E: Oil/water heat exchange unit
028 115 721B: longer oil cooler union bolt
078 121 096AD: short coolant hose (required)
078 121 058AJ: long coolant hose (stock one "may" work)
028 117 070B: seal between oil cooler/engine
The Concept: To keep oil temps below 130C/266F.
The principle: 25% more (measured) coolant and 25% more (measured) oil volumes than stock unit.
The Benefit: To keep oil temps lower and prolonging thermal break-down.
Installation: Straight tit-for-tat swap of all pieces.
Advantages over air-to-oil cooler: oil gets up to temp faster and hovers nearer water temps. No additional plumbing and no mounting any supplemental oil cooler.
Disadvantages: None known.
Costs: Approximately $200 if purchased new from dealer. Approx half that if "key" parts are purchased out of junkyard.
Our water cross-over hard pipe is the same part as on the S4. But orientation of coolant inlet/outlet holes dictate a new "short" line definately and "maybe" a new long one as well. Anyone attempting this would definately do well to install a new gasket between cooler and engine. And while the longer, hollow union bolt is required the nut will transfer to and work on either extension pipe.
Once installed the stock oil filter or the "super-size" filters can still be used.
This has been a public service announcement by this member and should only be attempted by those posessing the proper skills and handtools. No warranty as to any individuals success with this modification is expressed or even hinted at. Works for me tho YMMV!

I'd hate to see the price of that kit!<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng61.shtml">https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng61.shtml</a</li></ul>
