Default CIS-E Motronic help please!

Coming home Christmas eve, my 80 died on me on a long downhill and would not restart. If I left it to sit for a few minutes it would cough once or twice, but no start. Due to the weather (10-20F and snowing!) I haven't gotten very far in troubleshooting it yet. So far I know:

-seems to have good fuel pressure and plenty of flow at distributor and CSV, although I haven't measured it yet.
-seems to have good spark
-only code in fault memory was O2 sensor fault
-timing belt is still intact and there is good compression

No major problems before this happened, ran pretty smooth and got 30-35mpg.

I'll work through fuel system in teh next few days (when it warms up), but if anyone has any ideas as to what to check first and perhaps save me some time, it would be much appreciated!

Default try disconnecting the O2 sensor....

from the connectors on the driver's side of the engine, should be two connectors, one spade for signal and a 2 pin connector for heater, i had a similar issue with my 10v 80q when the heater in the o2 went bezerk, will run fully unplugged... it's time you replaced it anyway get a bosch 13913 for ~40$ from the local parts store

Default Pull an injector and see if it spits while cranking....

If not, lift the plate (slightly) while cranking to see if it will start. Where did you check for spark? At the coil or at the end of a plug wire? Also try pulling the electrical plug on the DPR, a long downhill would induce a fuel cut and maybe the bi-metallic plate fused its self causing the lack of fuel to the injector. Try doing the Fonzie move with the back of a srewdriver to the DPR too.

Default Re: CIS-E Motronic help please!

Both good suggestions, thanks. I did rap on the DPR and got it to start and run, I don't know if that was the cause or if it was a coincidence and something else unclogged itself while it was sitting. It was definitely on fuel cut-off for a couple of minutes going down this hill, so I like that hypothesis.

I'm going to go ahead and replace the O2 sensor as well, I have no idea how old it is.

Thanks again,

Braman

Default Re: CIS-E Motronic help please! - UPDATE

Update - well, it happened again. This time it died under load, engine warm, no warning. It appeared to have spark at the end of the plug wires while I cranked. Plenty of fuel pressure at the distributor. Tried disconnecting the DPR and whacking at it, but no success. I'll see if it restarts tomorrow like it did last time.

From searching the archives, it seems like the Hall sensor is a likely candidate, but if that was bad I'd have no spark, correct?
