Default Coolant On Ground?$# Help or Advice

The 1990 CQ 20 valve (95, 000 on the clock) has a broken temp gauge, and recently there has been coolant on the ground (intermittently). Looks like the hose's are in tact, the Radiator is new, so where should I look? The fan hasn't been kicking on while the car is running, but has run after shut down.(could this be my problem?, and if it is where should I start looking to fix the fan issue). Any tell tails for an overheated motor? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Default when my water pump was leaking, the coolant showed up here.

maybe just go ahead & replace the expansion container. often old ones are prone to cracking
