I have a 90 90 Quattro 20V. The first time the coolant warning came up, I pulled over and checked everything, but nothing was wrong. And now it comes on every once an a while on the highway and when I'm driving on hilly roads it comes on too, whats going on here? Are the coolant sensors known to go bad? I just got the oil change so maybe the coolant was changed and that could be causing the problem??? Should the coolant resevior be filled all the way? Thanx for your time.

Every once in a while the light will start flashing, and then go off again. There's still above minimum coolant in the reservoir, but when I fill it up almost all the way, it doesn't come on anymore. Before it always came on while turning left or accelerating hard... Like I said, since I filled up the res. it hasn't come on yet...

I had the same problem.
Add some more water, then untight the screw on top of the radiator to let the air go.
If you still have the problem, it is anoder realising screw on top of those two hoses wich goes to heating core.
Good luck.
