I'm talkin like a 6 speed from a tt or what have you. Ik they aren't compatible but you get the point. What would be a good donor vehicle for an upgraded trans?

For your car? Certainly NOT a TT. That is a transverse layout, your car is longitudinal.

Look for S2/RS2 bits, about the only way to get a bolt-in setup for a 6spd.

im very likely to put a B5 S4 transmission into my car, 95 90. Pretty sure it all bolts right up, just have to change the front axle "cups" and see about the rear drive shaft, what to do for that. I know it has been done but also thinking of having a once piece shaft made

I figured some modification would be needed. I'm considering doing a complete swap from a late gen car. Like a 2.7T . That would be awesome. But the problem is going to be getting ahold of one without giving up several ligaments. lol IDK.

Any 4.11:1 final drive 01E will work, but you will need 6spd S2 front axles and a 4kq prop shaft, plus proper mounts and 6spd S2/RS2 shift linkage. The 6spd B3 (S2) and B4 (S2 Avant & RS2) used different subframes than the 5spd (01A) cars.

This is what I was eluding to in my other post. Supposedly 4kq output flanges work (the "cups" mentioned) so you can use the smaller inner-CV axles, but the 01E is a different width than an 01A so you need to get a different axle for one side of the car. Do a search on here, and also MotorGeek.

yeah i tried here but didn't come up with much, ill try motorgeek. I have the trans and there is a 4kq in the junkyard here. But the trans mounts and half shafts are not going to be fun esp since they are NOT in this hemisphere
