Got a compliment at work yesterday (A little long)
I bought my 93 90S about 2-1/2 months ago (and love it). I had an 87 5000 with a couple of dents from the PO (my dad). I was talking to some friends at my company in our Marketing department who I have not had a chance to talk with at any great length since I got my 90. One of the people I was talking to is a VW owner who knows a little about VW/Audi, and he made a commant something to the effect of "well, I guess we all know who is making the big bucks around here!" I looked at him quizzically (yes its a real word) and asked what he meant. He said that the group of them had been at a nearby Wendy's recently and saw my car. My response was that the price wasn't too bad. He asked what year it was, and I told him. He said that everyone had thought that it was a 99 because of its condition! Gotta love Audis! (sorry about all the he-said, she-said's!)

Yeah. I laugh when I tell my friends that my 95 90Q was the same price as their...
...95 Jetta GTI or their 97 Outback. I think they're bummed that they paid a similar price for a machine with less character/quality/performance.
I will always buy used vehicles.

I too have often received the "they must be rich" treatment. The Coupe is my daily driver and my wife has the 1993 90 (see picture poster). When everyone sees we have two Audis my wife and I can always notice people whispering about us. I just have to laugh because we bought the 1993 90 back in early 1998 for $9,000 and the Coupe for $5,800. Combined our cars our always less than their brand new Camary, Accord, or even Minivan.
Unfortunately not everyone educates themselves about cars.

Spoken like a true "I like my wallet fat" thinker Used is the only way to go. Never buy a new car, unless you have lots of cash to burn. Leasing is better, but still, buying used is where its at. Well, as long as its not a 1950's Ferrari, any Rolls Royce or Bentley, or a Sport quattro....

I get the same thing at school all the time from people with brand new Jeeps and Lexus, I don't get the mentality that if you have an Audi you must be rich. My Brother gets it a lot too with his coupe, then people realize it has 200k on it.

We've got a Volvo and a 95 Quattro...friends think we're rich. It kills them to hear that the 2 cars together cost less than any of their new Accords, Passats and minivans. Then I do all of my own maintenance and repairs, so they cost less to own. While they're saddled with 6 years of payments on one car, I have 2 cars that should go 5 or six more years...no payments.
