Default high speed fan(s) always on as soon as the key is turned...

...there is only one relay for the fan in the fuse box(marked Fan 1). Pulling this has no effect. However, pulling the relay designated as "Relief Relay" works in turning off the fan while the ignition is turned.

The fuse box says that there should be 2 other relays for the fan, along with a relay for the A/C...but these slots are empty.

I'm confused. Any suggestions?

The relief relay is marked on top with the number 213. It's 12V/60A

Audi part# 443 951 253 J

or...

SHO part# 89 95 11

if this helps

thx,

pete

That could be a sign of the fan switch having gone bad as well.

Default year/model, relief relay shuts everything off during cranking

more like a fan switch or relay problem.

thanks, it's a 93 90CS, manual...

Would anybody know where the fan switch is located on a 93 90?

If the relay's shot, is there a way of testing it? I suppose it's designed to fail open...

Default another observation...

when relay 213 is pulled, the high speed fans turn off, but I also lose my climate control.

Could it be A/C related? I read somewhere about a high pressure switch...???
