Default How do I adjust ABS sensors?

Here's the gig: Got an alignment on my 1990 Coupe
Quattro, and ever since then whem I press the brake
my ABS kicks in BUT ONLY BELOW 5mph. Go figure.
So I'm thinking they must have knocked a couple
of the sensors out of place when they did the
alignment. So how do I adjust them back?

Thanks!
Paul

Paul: I had the same problem but not from a wheel alignment. What in the bloody hell were they doing fooling with the sensors on your wheels anyway? For the error lite to come on in your dash, they either disconnected the sensors from their mounts in the hub or the master control unit by the brake master cylinder and not put them back correctly, or they may have cut into the signal wire somewhere along its length. You could pull the units out from their mounts in the hubs and see if they have been contaminated with something. Clean them and their mounts, put them back in, and snug them up to their spacers in their hubs. You may even need new spacers because the sensor units are either too far or too close in the hub mounts. The spacers provide the correct spacing for correct operation of the sensors. Give them a look.

SFTA is failing me and this is all I could come up with.
How does one adjust the ABS sensor gap?
One of mine was rubbing on the axle and I pulled it out to check and clean it (it's scraped up so I may need a new one) but obviously, when I put it back in, it's not adjusted correctly because I get the same problem as OP has.

For now I took the ABS/Cruise fuse out since it's much safer to drive that way.

I'd like to be able to fix the issue but haven't found the adjustment procedure yet.

Anyone able to give me a clue?

Thanks.

What kind of car?

I think the B3's had a spacer that went in before the sensors but my B4 does not - That's not really saying a whole lot since my ABS doesn't work either.

1993 90cs Quattro Sport - B4

ABS was working before but started to go on and off and I started hearing scraping coming from that one side. I must have hit it while replacing tie rods or ball joints or upper stut mounts or something...

The fuse you have pulled disables your Diff Lock and cruise control too.

If you want them to work you can pull the fuse in the relay under your drivers side rear seat. I did that and pulled the light after I gave up trying to fix mine.

Cruise wasn't working yet and I don't currently have a need for the diff to lock, so the quick solution was pulling that fuse.

Once I get to the cruise control diagnostics, then it'll have to go back in but I'm hoping to actually fix the ABS...

Im in the same boat on the cruise too - I only found that other fuse after I wanted to use the diff lock this winter in the snow.

let me know how you fix the cruise if and when you do - I feel like it might be as simple as vac leak in the system - I think there are o-rings that fail as part of assemblys attached to each pedal.

The most common failure is the cruise module itself. There's a couple of points where the solder fractures.

I'll be plugging in and testing the cruise system at some point. The Bentley for the 1997 Jetta has a very straight forward method, I'll just need to see if I can determine the "matching" pins on the Audi because the systems look extremely similar.

The tests will determine which components are at fault and is done without the module in place. If the test pass, it means it's a bad module.
