How do I remove the front strut assembly?
I'm having trouble getting the damn suspension torn apart to fix my bad wheel bearing still. How do I get the nut on the top of the strut piston off? There is an allen key hole on the top of the it and a recessed 7/8 nut. How do I hold the nut and the allen key? I don't get it. ??? Do I need a tool to compress the spring? Or no? Thanks guys.
Here's the nut at the top of the strut I'm talking about.

that top nut requires either a 22mm offset bex end wrench with an allen key to hold it, or an impact wrench by itself will do, best to loose it with tie rod end in strut tower or when car is on ground...just loosen...not release.

Thanks for all the help guys!
Hmm.... what to do. That's alot of special tooling and alot more work then I was expecting. Now I wish I would have just taken it to a shop. Probably would have actually saved money after all the tools I'm gonna end up buying. And the gas I'm burning driving my A4 around.
