I'm planing to buy a car soon and I've seen this nice Audi 90 on internet. Here is the picture. The add said it is full equiped with A/C and sunroof. Can you tell me the most important thing to look at this car (a 1993) before buying it. The part that broke oftent on this car... you know, that kind of stuff... And also the price expected (I do not know the millage of it) The car comme with a warranty of 6 month/4 000M. Thanks for your help. And also if it is possible to tell me the model (S / CS / CS Quattro) if you can see it with the picture.

Default welcome!

i picked my 90S up, in Vermont, for $8500, with 79k miles. big things to look for? well, i can't say specifically for the car, but the usual things to look for/ask about are:

if over 60k, timing belt/water pump replaced?
look for rust!
brakes & shocks/struts may need replaced

take it to a trusted audi mechanic and get them to look at the car. they will be able to tell you things which i cannot.

hope that helped in the slightest.

I bought my ragusa green metallic 1994 Audi 90S just recently. It had 109,000 miles on it at the time and I bought it for $5,000. Some known problems I knew of after test driving it was that the cruise control didn't work. I forgot to test to see if the windshield wipers would squirt water onto the windshield and unfortunately that didn't turn out to work either and when I went to look at it, it was during the day. Here in San Diego, it's usually nice, sunny, and warm. However, at nights it can get foggy and cold so I couldn't check the back defoggers/defrosters. Well, those didn't work either. I also knew the CV boots were bad but I got those fixed ASAP. Better than waiting til I get that knocking sound and have to be hundreds more to replace the axle. I feel a little bit jipped though. $5,000 was pretty much my budget and I jumped the gun simply because it was an Audi But I'm definately not disappointed in its performance. Being a college student, I don't have much money to replace all the broken things in my car but if you're looking for a nice car, Audi is definately the way to go. I'm not saying that all Audis have the same problems I had; simply, check the car out first and make sure you like it and the necessities are working. If they're not, haggle the price down!!

Oh and not to mention that the car had a bunch of light scratches on the hood and nicks/gashes of the sort on the rear bumper... and the Audi emblem on the back was missing which I replaced. Speaking of which, anybody know how much touch up paint would cost and if I could do it myself?

If the car has a 2.8L 12v V6 engine....

Common Problems (in no particular order):

1) Oil consumption (1qt/1000 miles is not uncommon)
2) Oil leaks
a) head gaskets leak
b) valve cover gaskets leak
c) Oil pan gaskets leak
3) O2 sensors were out prematurely
4) Ignition switch sticks (can ruin your starter)
5) Catalytic converters fail often
6) A/C evaporator is a common failure (7+ hrs labor to replace)
7) If manual tranny must drive the car to see if there is a hesitation first thing in the morning...common!
8) Auto trannies suck (just my opinion)
9) Air leak at the Throttle Body to Plastic Plenum seal.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head!! I'm sure I left something off!!

You seem VERY new to Audi's. In an Audi a "quattro" designation indicates All Wheel Drive(AWD). NO "quattro" designation indicates Front Wheel Drive (FWD). From the looks of the picture that looks like a 90 (FWD). It doesn't appear to have any S, CS, or quattro designations! Only guessing from the picture though!!

Hope this helps!!

I have a titanium grey 90S and i went to the dealer to buy some touch-up paint. after applying it to my audi, i was very disappointed because it cannot be perfectly matched to the original color and it left marks that i did not like.

Default Also...

Better find a good local Audi mechanic that is not the dealer, unless you want to spend a fortune on repairs.

The car's computer system makes general maintainance/repair difficult for the average back yard mechanic.

Other things that can go wrong:

1. Problems with operation of sun-roof.
2. Transmission mis-shifts (automatic). Auto Trans is not great even when it works correctly.
3. CV Joints.
4. Door locks fail.
5. Water leaks into interior.

Just want you to be prepared. These cars are not cheap to maintain - and you will want to do some maintainance yourself if you want to save money.

On the other hand, they are beautiful to drive when working well.

All the best.
Mike
