Default Installed 034 billet suframe mount, Delrin c/a bushings, poly snubber on 12V this weekend.......

first of all....huge pain in the *** with:

*front end jacked up about a foot
*roughly 12" of workspace on either side of car
*no torch to burn out bushings/mounts

also, unless I was sent the wrong submounts, or my b4 is unusual in some way or another, I had to modify the mounts- the bolts for the stock mounts are twice the size of the bolts/holes in the 034 billet pieces! I ended up enlarging the holes on the new mounts and using my stock bolts......whats wrong with this picture???

keep in mind I am not a professional mechanic.

I soon realized that the only way to get the stock subframe mounts out [without a torch] was to drop the subframe/grind a good portion of them (from the inside out) and air hammer them upward- squeezing them out between the sub frame and frame rails....PITA!

Without a press of some sort or a torch, the removal of old and installation of new c/a bushings was equally annoying...and that didnt even come close to the PITA of pressing the arms back into the subframe- that took me 5 hours (with a jack a hammer and much cursing).

please tell me there was an easier way to go about all this.

Regardless, after obscenities, blood, and HOURS the installation was completed....and let me say- all that aside......THESE MODS ARE WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!
they do EXACTLY what they're supposed to do, and it is VERY noticable...thanks to 034!!

Default IIRC the sub frame bolts are to be changed every time they are removed...

I could be very wrong, but I think thats how it is according to Audi Specs...

Default Technically yes....

I've had old ones come loose, fall out, and even break off.

Replace them with new bolts every time.

Default Oh man don't say that.

Oh man don't say that. I plan on doing this exact job in the next week or so. Got all the parts I need plus engine and tranny mounts.

Default yup, they SHOULD be changed, even thoough many shops probably wouldnt.......

but the bolts 034 sent were like half the size of the stock ones.......they just spin around in the nut on the frame rail...

I had to drill out the center of the billet mounts to match the OE bolts/nuts and install using the old ones.

once you finally have the new mounts installed you'll realize how EASY it NOW IS to pull those bolts and even all the mounts if need be and on the fly if you need to.....it will only take a 5 minutes to throw in some new bolts once I have the proper size.

Default I imagine it would be a little easier with a proper lift and all the tools you need....

but man those c/arms were a BITCH to squeeze back into the subframe...the delrin doesnt move AT ALL....I yelled things I have never said before and dont even make sense.....I hope your experience is better.

just remember that if you indeed have to drill out the center hole of your sub mounts to fit the proper hardware, then make sure your holes are perfectly straight.

also, poly snubber is a bitch to get on the engine mount. I held it in front of a heater for a few seconds, and then was able to beat it on with a hammer. All the grease in the world wouldnt get a cold poly snubber on the mount.....jut my experience!

Default I dont know much about the 20v's...are your parts for a 20 or a 12v?......

I emailed Javad about the sub mounts and he got back to me saying that they are realizing now that B4's use the larger 12mm bolts and they will now be offering mounts with larger holes for the B4 cars! If yours is not a b4 then you may be alright. regardless, its easy enough to resize the holes in the billet.

Keep us posted!
