Default K&N air filter installation

I was wondering what is involved as far as installation of a replacement air filter on the 1988 audi 90 5 cyl. Just purchased a new K & N filter (non-cone) and it looks like you have to take a bunch of things apart to get to the filter or is there an easier way to do this? I have a Jetta also and I can replace the filter easily on that.

My 88 80Q should be just like yours under the hood. On mine, you just undo the clips that hold the top of the air box on. I had to disconnect the air boot from the intake manifold to get the lid high enough to get the new filter in. Be careful to keep track of and hoses you disconnect because the slightest leak from the air boot will cause the engine not to start or idle. I had a scary experience with that. Hope this helps.
