In light of the 8V turbo swap.
How big of a difference is there in turbo lag if the turbo is located remotely away from the exhaust manifold - in the case of the 8V to conserve space? Say you ran the downpipe around the top of the trans over to the drivers side and mounted your turbo there, then ran your plumbing from over there. Would there be a significant problem with turbo lag being that the turbo is so far downstream of the manifold?
I would think this would be an issue too on the 12v - similiar to the way it's been when running tt's on a Grand National. Just curious.

Downpipe goes where from the turbo?!
Sure plenty of room on the driver's side, but first off you would need to support the turbo big time and build up the flange that it would bolt too, it's gets mighty hot at the turbo and it could easily cook a piece of tubing with a flange welded to it. Also you could cook some of the stuff on the driver's side of the engine bay. The next problem is the downpipe, where is it gonna go? If you have a manual trans the body meets the trans on that side and there is no way to pass a downpipe through there. Plus passing a hot exhaust pipe past the end of the rack behind the engine and onto the other side wouldn't be very efficient or fun, cooking rack boots and the tie rod ends at the rack, wiring, heater core hoses...
Cheers,
Cheers,
