Default list of causes for fart smell?

so far, i've got these causes for the sulfur a.k.a fart smell (running rich then lean) from searching the forum

1. bad O2 sensor
2. air seepage around "black plenum" (what is a plenum?) of O2 sensor
3. loose gas cap

any more i should know about? and is it the lean running that causes the smell? or the rich. thanks for any help in advance.

Default I don't think the fart smell is the sign of a bad cat....

I got the smell right up until the cats went bad. Then there was no more smell, but white dust coming out of the tail pipe.

When I replaced the cats, the smell came back. The smell means the cats are working.

The gas cap is what finally did it for me. And this is after replacing...
-O2 sensors
-a bad MAF
-both cats (free under the 8yr/80K mile federal emissions law)
-a bad fuse

I still get the smell from time to time....but not nearly as often as I did before. A gas cap costs around $3 USD. Might as well get one and see if that works.

I think you mean plenum air leak at the throttle body (i.e. throttle body seal).

Try an all Protein diet, should cover up the egg smell with new more rancid smell.

Default Mine would make a gurgling sound...but at higher RPMs...I didn't notice anything at startup.

You may have a clogged cat.... in this case you should let your car warm up, and then drive it pretty hard. Run it to redline in 1st and 2nd a few times.
