Default Need a sharing of wisdom on modifications...thoughts from big moose and miktip or any....

body else who thought of going a 20v turbo swap to an '88-92 90 quattro.

I am close to getting ready to doing some stuff to my car. Well alot of stuff. The biggest being the 20vt conversion. My question is do you guys think that i would be better off doing the swap to my 88 90q or just get an early 92-94 s4 and due that up. THe thing is my 88 90q is in less numbers in my province than the early gen S4's.

I also plan on doing the rs2 light conversion along with hid, rims 16 inch, paint, lowering springs and exhaust. and perhaps a front bumper mod like Ksquared71 has if it would bolt up.

Any sugestions would be great. I want ot have all my plans made and products picked out so that when i get my money it will just be a matter of ordering the stuff.

What problems should i expect with the conversion such as clutch or diff. or tranny. As i plan on upgrading the motor. COuld my car handle 200-280 hp.

ALso is there a willowwoods brake upgrade like the one miktip sold a while back for my car?

Thanks in advance...

Save your money, and find the RIGHT ur-S4. A '93 model w/the carbon fibre interior.

Default Ahem... it's BigMouse... not moose :-) (more)

Tough choice you have. Buying an UrS4 would definately be much more reliable and less of a hassle to have serviced by a shop. The S4 has a slightly more advanced engine than a 3B (3B is the engine you would want to swap into a 90, not AAN. The 3B is pretty much bolt in). Both engines are very tunable. I was able to do the conversion myself and for only $3000. So I've spent just over $6000 on my car (including the cost of the car) and am right up there with the UrS4, if ot faster. My 80q weighs less by quite a substantial amount, and with the right mods will blow away even a new S4. If you think you can do the conversion yourself, and do a good job, Go for it. You'll have a car right up there with the S4 for about the same, or less than you would pay for one. But if there is the slightest doubt about being able to do the conversion, buy the stock S4 and use it as a base to build upon. It all depends on your preference, your skills, and of course, your wallet.
