Newbie 1994 90 Quattro questions
Hi, folks:
I'm looking at a 1994 Audi 90 Quattro sedan. The car is in very nice condition, runs great and has been well maintained. It has mileage in the 90s.
I'm a little unclear on the lineage; would the fact that it's a Quattro automatically make it a CS? Or did Audi offer the other variations of the 90 in a Quattro form? From my research on the web, it seems all Quattros were CS sedans with a 5-speed.
If it is a CS, how does it differ from the base 90? Same engine? Suspension? Or was it just a cosmetic package with the sport seats, etc.?
What is the expected price range for this car in excellent condition (no paint, accidents, etc.)? NADA, KBB and Edmunds are all over the map, of course.
Finally, how does this vintage of Quattro hold up? Anything I should be looking carefully for at the pre-purchase? Maintenance issues? Timing belts? Waterpump? Anything?
I've had a lot of experience with Porsches (I drive a 95 C4), but very little with Audi.
Any help appreciated ...

Newbie Porsche question:

I'm looking at acquiring a 87 944, the pic shows it. How much is it worth, non turbo with automatic (I know horrible combo). 61K original miles on it, not a spec of rust.

Ya know, if your got a C4, and you want a 90, we can work something out...
https://www.audiworld.com/model/historical/94/90.shtml
Has all the model info.
Make sure the timing belt was done at ~75k, thats the main big thing to get over. The drivetran aside from being leak prone is pretty solid, just have to deal with all the littler German electrical gremlins. If you have a Porsche history I'm sure your well versed in them.
A 94 Quattro with ~95K on it is worth 6500-8k depending on the shape and everything.

Re: Newbie Porsche question:
The 911 is really my forte, but Excellence magazine, a Porsche publication, has regular market updates. According to the April 2002 issue, an 87 944 normally-aspirated coupe:
Poor: $4418
Good: $5024
Excellent: $6725
"Excellent" means a perfect car, essentially; great cosmetics, flawless mechanicals. Typically, 10 percent might be added for a really low mileage example. The automatic transmission would probably decrease the price a little; it's not slouch but the car is a little more lively as a 5-speed.
In contrast, an excellent 944S (16-valve) fetches $8088, and a Turbo would be worth $9950.
Interestingly, the 1987 944 Turbo was quite close in MSRP price to the 87 911 Carrera (and had very similar performance). But a pristine 87 Carrera is still worth as much as $30k.
The 944 is wonderfully balanced and I've always liked the styling.
I do know that one of the big concerns on the 944 is the belts; they need to be done religiously and checked 2k miles later. Usually, you wind up doing a waterpump at the same time. Check the coolant for signs of oil leakage. And if the car vibrates at idle, it needs motor mounts. Lots of good information can be found at http://www.rennlist.org ... there are very active 944 forums there, and also at http://www.pelicanparts.com
Hope that helps ...

More opinions? Here is the car ...
Well, I want to keep both .... how selfish of me!
Price on the car is $6450, and it looks mint. I have the high bid on Ebay.

Re: More opinions? Here is the car ...Sounds like that price is reasonable
It sounds like the price is pretty reasonable...the auction was at 6450 last I checked. I bought my Audi for about the same price and same features, etc. Mine was not in such a great condition, although it was in good condition.
