oil change

oil change
My 1988 80 is due for its oil change and I was wondering if I should go with a synthetic. It has 128,000 miles and it runs like a champ, I just want it to stay that way. Anyone have any suggestions on if or when I should and what kind and weight to use?

The rumor that I've heard
is that when engines get high miles and have been run on conventional oil, you shouldn't change. Something about the compound doesn't soak into the cylinders as well. The oil is thinner, right? I don't know if that even makes sense.
I have never used synthetic in my cars and never had any problems yet.

Re: oil change
I'm not that familiar with the engine in your model but my last car, an '88 Saab 900 turbo had 165000 miles on it when I sold it to a coworker and it is still running well. I puyt mobile 1 10-30 in that car and the same weight Mobile 1 synthetic in my '95 90Q. In my estimation sythetics especially Mobile 1 are far and away superior to petro based oils. you can look here for more info

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng.html</a

The real reason...
is that the more viscous synthetic oil tends to clean out deposits in a high miles engine, thus exposing leaky seals or gaskets that have been there but been covered up by deposits. So if you switch, you'll be protecting your engine just fine, but you may find that it leaks more than usuall.
