Quick Ratio Steering Rack for the B3?

Re: Quick Ratio Steering Rack for the B3?
No, unless you have ties to Audi Sport...I may see if I can't do a hybrid Type44/Type8B rack, as that is supposedly what was in a certain rally car I know of.

Audi Sport? ...unfortunately no... ...and I wish!
hmmm, type44/type8b? would that still be power assist, or manual? (curious). and how many applications would that fit?
possible to pull the rack apart and have a shop machine up some new internals, or is that way to complicated?

Servotronic on those cars, like urS4/6, makes steering too light
but do not know what ratios are like. I have always wanted a quicker ratio setup, only one I know of is on a rally car that has a steering quickener box up at the steering wheel, surely wouldn't fit with column covers, definite rally car exposed mechanism look.

Howdy! I have always wondered if fitting the S2 rack and not using the servotronic function would results in a quicker ratio. I doubt it though, probably the same as a stock rack, servotronic stinks.
I hate going into a corner with the wheel turned 90 degrees and it's not even that sharp of a corner. Man just call me wheel man out on the ice, arms get a work out. I have yet to auto-x the 90 and I think the steering is really going to bug me.

Custom steering pinions are not too cheap, but I know a shop that will do VERY low volume (IE one at a time) for a price. Its the shop the FSAE team here uses (we cannot cut that gear to my knowledge).
The rack would still be power (both racks are, basically just changing either the rack or the pinion to get a faster ratio/fewer turns lock-to-lock), and should fit any B3, possibly the B4?
Since the buyer of the '86 TQ had to back out on me, I'll have access to its steering rack again, which I'll pull apart and check out if I get a chance.
