Replacement Diff options for CQ?
I have a terrible amount of play on the input shaft of the rear diff in my CQ resulting in a nasty clunk. Unfortunately, I think it's time to look for a replacement.
What options do I have? Is the 4.11 final drive ratio different compared to Audi 90's?
Thanks,
Andrew

Are you sure it's the input shaft and not the rear diff mount?
If the rear diff mount is worn it will result in a very loud bang/clunk upon driveline engagement during shifting. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way by replacing a good mount with the much cheaper Rabbit motor mount. The rabbit mount gave way within a matter of weeks forcing me to be gentle with the clutch on shifts or suffer what sounds like the whole rear end falling to the road. I plan on switching it out with an OEM mount again soon...

Re: Are you sure it's the input shaft and not the rear diff mount?
I replaced the rear mount with a rabbit mount and poly insert and there was no change. I have also replaced the side mounts with new and no improvement.
I can replicate the noise although not as harsh, with the propeller shaft off and bar between two bolts in the flange.

Re: do you hear it when you've got your foot on the clutch & you're rolling over>>>
No, that does not happen. When there is no load on the diff, everything is quiet.
When the clunk does happen, it is clearly coming from the rear of the car. I have had a friend in the car working the clutch to load the diff while I lay beside the car. It is definately coming from the rear diff, but the diff isn't moving much.

Re: BTW, what color is your CQ?

Re: hmmm. mine's opposite. under load, it's fine.
Once under load mine is quiet, just the initial shock is the problem. As long as I drive smoothly I can avoid the clunk, but I can't even shift the slight bit agressivly without the noise.
