Default The saga continues

Well I buttoned up the coupe and it wont start. No spark. I need a magnetic pickup in the distributor-or a new/used one.Anyone willing to donate or sell to the cause? I also have some questions. I set the no.1 piston to top and the cams I set so the markings are together. I lined everything up as my alldata says and turned over the motor 6 times by hand. no prob, sucked and blew like a girlfriend before she becomes wifey. Hit the key and after about 7 revolutions it sounds like it's hitting hard. I crank it over by hand and no obstructions. I hate to cash out of the car, now I need a distributor just to get spark and see if the pistons hit. Or I tear it back down (3rd time) to see if everythings kosher. Advise, suggestions, words of encouragement or some what not and what have yous. I am open. Thanks

Default How about...

When you put the #1 to TDC was it on the right revolution?? it turns twice for each cam turn, you need to look for the "O" in the window on the bell housing.

Sounds like it may be 360 degrees out and the crank position sensor is not getting the signal at the right time.

Default 2nd. Also, check the basics, like spark and fuel - is it coming through?

it helps to tell us what you actually did on the car too.

Default Check all of the above CAREFULLY as put down by a_CQ & Jim....but

also pop the cap off the Dizzy to see if it's moving. You say
"I need a magnetic pickup in the distributor" > Are you saying you need one or you THINK you need one? Have you checked the dizzy completely? Is the rotor hitting the the timing mark PERFECTLY on the dizzy body when you line up everything else? Is the rotor turning? Is the dizzy gear in 1 piece? Lots to check friend.

I condemmed the magnetic pickup as I have no spark out of the distributor. I did all the valves and while the head was off inspected the distributor. The gear was good and the shaft spun free, but the connector was brittle and wires corroded. The markings on the distributor housing and the plate DID match up and so did the engine marks, however now I question myself as to if it was at 0 on the flywheel. I believe so but now I cant confirm it. I will rotate it to 0 and see where the marks land. I still would need a distributor. If its off 360 would it have bent my new valves? Should I pull the head again? thanks

If unsure and in doubt, looks like you'll need too. Sorry.

If you were 360 off you wouldn't bend the valves...
