So my car woulda burnt to the ground today............(ill give you one hitachi hint why)
if it wernt for my keen nose. I was on my way to work, the usual 140km on the hyway, pulled off on my exit and noticed it smelled like stinky brakes or oil on a hot motor. I didnt think much of it as i had passed a big deisel truck just before exiting the hyway and had braked pretty hard for the turn. The shop is only a few miles from the hyway so as soon as i pulled into work i parked the car and popped the hood to see what was now smelling quite strong. i opened up the hood and the throttle body was on fire, yes, burning, lucky i had 2 litres of antifreze in the car to put it out. But now i know how these CQ's catch fire, it was my throttle potentiometer that started it. I have a CQ parts car that had an engine fire that started in the same place but could never tell how it started. ill post some pics of the meltdown later. Im surprised the car still ran till i turned it off. now im at work and i doubt itll start even to pull it in the shop for the night. Well i guess this is the sign to officially start the AAN swap huh??

Throttle potentiometer!???? How? The only way that could happen if there was a short...
in the wire. I doubt instantaneous combustion is possible. You might have had a small fuel leak from the fuel line or from one of the injectors. I'd say check very, very carefully.

but all the wires and multiplug are fine, and it was no-where near any fuel lines or injectors, its under the throttle body, theres nuthin there but 2 vac lines,..........odd really

make of it what you will, but from actually looking at it personally, I don't believe it was a fire victim... i believe it's the cause. How else do you explain the -otherwise- perfect outside case, where the innards are charred and melted. Something shorted within the sensor itself, but now it's just a matter of an autopsy to figure out what.
