Still trying to track down this EGR issue.
Ok, I have cleaned everything up. Now I am getting codes: 17509 and 16785 on the VAG-COM. I was only getting 16785. Looks like in the Bentley that you can get that code from the computer not receiving any information in a set period of time. I checked block 17 on the vag and it looks like I am not getting a reading from the temp probe. So I checked the probe and it seems to work ok. Bentley says to check the connector for 4-5 volt range with the ignition switch on. Mine reads 11.23 volts. So it looks like I have an open circuit somewhere in the system. How do I go about finding this? I have hooked up the multimeter and jiggled the wires up to the fire-wall with no change in voltage noted. What do I do next. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Never mind I figured it out.......
I was having a Homer Simpson moment. Someone had changed the connector on the T-position sensor and I was checking the voltage to that. The EGR connector checked out ok. One problem with the Bentley though. It say to put the EGR switch in some boiling water and if the ohms change the switch is ok. Well if the wire has a short in it then the ohms change too. I stuck some pins in the wire's end near the switch and hooked a AA battery up the the connector and jiggled the wire. Volts were all over the place. Change the wire with one from the parts car and now no more engine light, at least for now.
