Strange idle issue, any ideas?
Now this has been going on for a long time, and I'm just now addressing since I have everything else out of the way now. My car idles fine, but every few minutes, especially before it's all warmed up, the idle dropped quickly, almost killing itself then pops back up. It's never actually killed itself. To me it sounds almost as if it's trying to "switch modes" or something, but almost loses it. Any sensors that could cause this?
Thanks

Not to hijack your post...
But I have the exact same problem with my car, a '95 90Q. For no obvious reason the idle will drop way down and then pop back up, and the car never stalls. I cleaned the old ICV, that didn't help, and finally just replaced the ICV, and it still does this. Grrr. I'm starting to wonder if the coolant temp sensor is not telling the ECU how cold the engine really is, and it's trying to somehow lean out the mixture therefore causing the fuss. Just an off the wall hypothesis.
Strange thing is when I turn on the A/C, the car NEVER does this. The idle speed does not increase one bit with the A/C on, but it stops the idle from fluctuating. I'm at a loss as well...
Anyone have any ideas?
