Default Its an item currently on every V6 Audi I've ever seen! Except the one above.........

MAF-Mass Airflow Sensor. Basically, it measures the in coming air and tells the ECU how much fuel to put in the engine. VERY IMPORTANT! Your & my V6 wont run without it!

I don't have a MAF, but I use a standalone ecu (TEC-II).

Default Speaking of the MAF....

Has anyone tried insulating it and noticed any performance gains? I'm considering this because I believe heat from the engine could provide false information of the density of the outside air to the ECU. When I drive my car for approx 30 min and put my hand on the MAF it is too hot too keep it there for more than a second.

Default Re: Speaking of the MAF....

i did it in chicago..insulated the MAF and entire box and tubing going to the engine...it kicks down alot better unlike when not protected in the chicago heat. before when unprotected it would kick not on WOT in the morning (or when cold) and when the temp's rose it wouldnt kick in when i WOT'd. now it does...took about 1.5 hours so im pretty happy with the results..i will take a pic of it when i clean my engine like Mike Tip's engine. BMWSLYR in WA.
