When do I say last rites? Repair or Replace my 1989 Quattro 90

When do I say last rites? Repair or Replace my 1989 Quattro 90
I've got a 1989 Quattro 90 with 234.5K on it. I bought it in 1997 with 104K on it and although I've put a bit of money into it, it's been a great car.
I have to sink $1000 into it to get it inspected by the end of August (rear A-frame bushings, front A-frame bushings and rear exhaust). The AC doesn't work and the power locks only work from the passenger side, the interior roof fabric is coming unglued and two of the plastic detailing strips on the doors have come off. BUT it is otherwise in great shape with only a two spots of rust just starting to show up (impressive for a Vermont car).
I love this car and nothing else I drive seems to really adequately compare. Is it stupid to put the $1000 into it - is it just a losing battle at this point?
I live in Vermont (NE US) where the road salt, mud, snow, and pot-holed dirt and paved roads really beat up on cars.
If I need to look for a different car - any recommendations for a comparable Audi on the newer side?
Thanks in advance,
LJ

Do what i just did. look in the paper and see what sells for $5,000. a 1994 neon, a 1997 excort, a good european car with not many less miles than yours. $1,000 for inspection? get used to it. in my opinion, keeping it would depend on body rust/frame/suspension stuff. if your really fed up, you would be supprised to see what that car will get on ebay.

RE: To All - thanks!
Since last week I went through all the things my car needs - many things I just live with like the locks only work from the passenger side, etc. plus the suspension work, exhaust work and and engine power problem that I thought was just a fuel filter but since have found otherwise and thought I would spend the $1000 and hope for the best.
So then I made the mistake of just checking out some newer used Audis at the shop/dealer and I eventually buckled. I got $1000 for the 90 which seemed fair given that it has a lot of quirks and needs the suspension and exhaust work.
If I had a garage and tools to do more than the basics for work on my car I'd be more prone to keeping it forever but being that I only have one set of wheels and need them to be reliable for at least a twice a day 30 mile commute I decided it was a better bet to go for something newer.
I got a 1998 A4 with 107K and in pristine shape and am going to baby her all the way to 300K. Any tips for greatest longevity are welcome.
Perhaps I was foolish this time and should have stuck with the 90 but I am enjoying the A4.
Thanks to all for your 2 cents.
